Fall Farmer’s Market

This weekend was a good one. On Saturday, Jake stayed home with Sofia and I got to take Hudson to the USC game on a little mommy date. I’m quickly learning how precious these times I have with them one on one are. We had so much fun! We didn’t get home until 1:30 … AM … but it was well worth the fun night. Yesterday we spent the day together just the four of us, we had a slow morning, went to the farmer’s market, and just rested. Much like the one on one time, I’m realizing how desperate our family is for these types of rest days together. Days with nothing on the agenda, just being. It’s something I want to build in to our monthly rhythms and not compromise on.
Clearly I’m learning a lot these days because it took me 4 years as a mom to realize how life-changing a backpack diaper bag is! Serious game changer here. Especially since having two, having my hands free for them over having a bag on one shoulder has been so nice. I tagged a few of my favorites below.
Hope you all had an amazing weekend and are ready for this new week!

Jac

Fall Picnic

Fall is still making us wait, but we make our own Fall around here. We had planned to go to our favorite apple orchard, but called ahead and found out all the apples had been picked! What the what?! So we decided to do an apple picnic instead. We bought a ton of different types of apples, had apple cider, apple butter, all the APPLE things! Hudson’s favorite part was rolling the pumpkin down the hill, and Sofia’s favorite part was watching Hudson. I hope I never forget the sound of how hard he makes her laugh.

It’s still 100 degrees here {I wish I was being dramatic} but Fall will get here eventually I’m sure.

To everyone else enjoying Fall weather, soak it up for us!

The Beach

These are probably some of my favorite photos Jake’s ever taken of us. They capture the kids and their personalities so perfectly. This is so much our life lately, not perfect sunset beaches every day, but just their all over the place-ness, and joy. They have so much joy, I want to bottle it up and drink it in slow – I need this type of joy. In a place where you can easily have the life sucked out of you, moments like this that fill you up are so needed; we don’t take time for this enough. Praying we can grow in our intentionality to make more space for this.

Beverly Hills Library

We’re trying to give one day a week to spend together and explore this beautiful city. We so easily get caught up in our day to day and realize we haven’t spent time just being and enjoying where we live. We also try to make these days super special for Hudson and Sofia and find things that are really fun for them. So last week we branched out to Beverly Hills. We used to go to church in Hollywood so we’d be out of our part of town at least once of week, but now that we go to church closer to home I find myself not going over to the West Side for months at a time. Anyways, we stumbled upon the Beverly Hills Library and none of us were disappointed! Seriously so fun! And there are obviously a ton of fun things to do in that area. We highly recommend it!

Kidspace

Ok, I am so not used to LA having a winter, we haven’t had one in like 5 years, and I’m out of practice. On the one hand it’s fun to bundle up, on the other hand,  in 10 years I haven’t gone a year without being at the beach in a swimsuit in February, and you can’t really beat that. BUT this past week, it felt like spring!!! We are loving it! Hudson has played in the backyard for hours each day, we get to leave our windows open without getting super cold (I know I’m totally spoiled and a whimp when it comes to the “cold”), and we get to start revisiting our favorite outdoor spots. Hudson has been asking to go to Kidspace for weeks, and we finally got to go! It is our favorite kids museum in LA. It’s right in Pasadena next to the Rose Bowl, and you could easily spend the entire day there. They have indoor and outdoor play/explore areas and our favorite part in the summer is the river where kids can walk up and down the rocks and play with buckets and there’s a little waterfall, it is AMAZING! PS … I’m dying over their little faces in these pictures. Ah, I love them.

Happy Monday!

Balboa Strawberry Festival

On Saturday we found out that there was a strawberry festival just twenty minutes away on Sunday, I mean … a festival for strawberries … yes please. So after church we headed up, and when we got there it was kind of like a farmers market but with lots of fun strawberry treats and fun games for kids. We had the most amazing fish tacos with strawberry salsa, chocolate covered strawberries, and there was this crazy chili, pineapple, strawberry drink everyone was raving about. Hudson loved cranking the water toys and driving “his fire Jeep” – he’s obsessed with Jeeps, like father like son. He’s the most passionate kid I’ve ever met, I love watching him enjoy things the way he does. It was a great way to spend our afternoon! Have a great weekend!! xo, Jac IMG_7882

LA Zoo

We have been really trying to take advantage of all that this beautiful city has to offer. We haven’t had a zoo pass for about a year, and when I was in Texas Jake took Hudson and renewed it. I’m not sure who enjoys it more, but I have no doubt we’ll be spending a lot of time there this summer! Jake was able to get some amazing shots of the lions, and according to the lion keeper getting shots of them showing affection is really rare, so that was fun. Hudson still hasn’t stopped talking about all the animals! Sofia did great on her first zoo trip! Clearly she slept through it all.
Happy Wednesday!

Echo Park Boats

We have been soaking up all the newborn love for the past month or so. Getting back in to a normal routine seems to be a lot easier this time around. There are so many factors that play in to this, but I’m just super thankful for it!

Last week we had an hour of one on one time with Hudson at the Echo Park Boats. He is doing so amazingly as a big brother! He adores “his Sofia,” He walks around telling everyone, “this is my Sofia.” Don’t get me wrong, there’s been some adjustment, but he just adores his baby sister. Anyways, an hour or so to himself with uninterrupted mommy and daddy time was so good!

If you live here or find yourself in LA a visit to the boats at Echo Park Lake is an absolute MUST! The staff is so friendly, and it’s a great hour to spend in the middle of the city! For all the details about riding the boats, visit here.
We LOVE living in LA, and are so excited to start sharing more of our favorite places, like this, with you!

Happy Wednesday!

Jac

Matching Morning Downtown

Yesterday we woke up early and got out the door with plenty of time before church so we spent an hour or so Downtown just walking around. Before kids Jake and I planned to move Downtown and it’s always held this special place in our hearts. Hudson loves it down there, he just soaks it all in. Hudson’s jacket was my dad’s when he was little, and I have been dying to get some pictures of Hudson in it; this weekend it was cool enough to pull it out, and I could have just eaten him up! I will absolutely match him as long as I possibly can! Today marks 2 weeks until due date!!! Ahh! How has this pregnancy flown by so fast?! Hope all of your weeks are off to a good start! xo, J IMG_4284

Descanso Gardens

Saturday LA had it’s free-for-all museum day. 30+ museums opened up for the public to come and enjoy their space at no charge. We’ve been wanting to check out Descanso Gardens, and had a really fun couple of hours roaming around. It would be a great place to pack a picnic, and I imagine it’s gorgeous in the spring when everything’s in bloom! Lately, Hudson is happy anywhere he can run and find sticks, so this place was his own personal oasis. Hope your weekends were relaxed and your weeks are getting off to a great start!
